Unique Ideas For Your Own DIY Garden Fountain

Fountains are a great addition to any backyard. You can listen to the trickling of water as you read, hold a garden party, or even tend to your flowers. They’ve also been shown to lower the temperature of gardens, so you can use them to try to stay cool during a blistering hot summer. It doesn’t get much better than that!
Unfortunately, fountains can cost quite a pretty penny. The price can get steep quickly when you start shopping around for a fountain. So wouldn’t it be nice if you could make your own? But what could you possibly turn into a fountain? There are a number of items that could be around your home or easily found at garage sales that you can turn into a fountain at little cost to you. You just have to get creative.

1. Old Plant Pots
This is one of the more obvious choices. If you’re like me and you have trouble keeping plants alive, then you probably have have a neglected pot that you’ve attempted to house taller plants in before. Take that pot and and repurpose it into a beautiful fountain that will babble away like a brook and add a certain level of serenity to your backyard. Looks like not having a green thumb pays off for one, hm?

2. Car Tires
If you haven’t keep your old tires handy, then you can find them at junk yards, garage sales, or any number of other places. You could even put out a call for help online asking people to set aside their old ones for you. Then stack them in unique patterns to create a cascading masterpiece that will easily start a conversation with any guest you have over.

3. A Piano
You probably wouldn’t have expected this as an option on this list. You probably won’t have a spare piano lying around, but this is more to show you that almost anything can be turned into a fountain if you try! If you by any chance do have access to an old piano, then bring it out to the backyard. The main bed area can be filled with soil and plants that will grow beautifully. And then have your piano flow from where the keys used to be. It’s a unique centerpiece that you’ll be able to admire for a long time.

4. Little Extras Go a Long way
Whatever you use to turn into a fountain for your backyard, it’s the extras that will take it the extra mile and turn it into a masterpiece. My favorites are stones. Layering stones in or around the fountain will add an extra touch of serenity or color depending on the types of stones you use. Another popular choice is lily pads that can float on the surface and add some green to any fountain. Get creative and your final piece will be one to be proud of.

Now don’t wait another moment and start hunting around your home and at garage sales in the area. Let your imagination run wild as the sky is the limit here!
